Rest Area Custodian

Introduction:

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel District will be accepting applications for a Rest Area Custodian in the Shops & Services Division until  this position is filled. This position is responsible for cleaning of the District’s Rest Area/Tourism Building.  Primary schedule is a forty-hour work week and includes all weekends and Holidays.

This is a full-time position with a salary range of $27,703.00 to $44,421.00 and includes a complete benefits package. Applicant must have a valid Virginia Driver’s License.

General Definition and Conditions of Work:

Performs responsible unskilled work in the care and cleaning of District’s Rest Area/Tourism Building; does related work as required.  Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Shops and Services Superintendent.  Work days include Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays; ranging from 8 to 12-hour shifts.  Work is subject to the needs of the District.

This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects, and some heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, hazards, and oils.

Essential Functions/Typical Tasks:

  • Cleaning and maintaining the District Rest Area Tourism Building, grounds and facilities.
  • Sweeps, dust mops and wet mops floors;
  • Cleans windows and Glass Doors;
  • Removes trash from buildings; picks up trash and debris around the outside of buildings, parking area and scenic overlook;
  • Scrubs and cleans Rest Rooms including mirrors, wash basins, urinals, Toilets and Toilet Partitions, etc.;
  • Fills tissue and soap dispensers;
  • Dusts walls and windowsills;
  • Performs limited maintenance where necessary;
  • This position requires employees to work outside, and potentially in excess of, normally scheduled hours in response to District needs, including but not limited to, accidents, incidents and/or weather events.
  • Performs related tasks as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Some knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; ability to perform manual work; ability to get along well with others; ability to read; thoroughness; cleanliness; good physical condition.

Education and Experience:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some building cleaning experience.

Special Requirements:

Valid Virginia Driver’s License is required. Pre-employment drug screening is required.
