The Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel District takes this public health issue regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19) seriously, and as a result, the District is being more vigilant than ever in regard to the health, safety and well-being of its employees and the traveling public.

In an effort to reduce the opportunities for contamination and decrease the chances of exposure to the Coronavirus (COVID-19), per the guidance provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the CBBT has discontinued its Driver Assistance  and Wind Van Programs until further notice.

Additionally, the Administration Building, as well as the North and South Toll Plaza buildings, are currently closed to the public.  Personnel remain ready to assist by calling (757) 331.2960.

Be Cautious!

As we approach 60 years of age, maintenance projects are increasing on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel to preserve the safe condition of the facility.

Nightly tunnel roadwork will occur Monday thru Friday, 9 pm – 6:45 am and travelers can expect 30 minute delays.

Additional changes in traffic patterns are occurring across the CBBT.  All motorists, including E-ZPass customers, are advised to BE PREPARED TO STOP AT THE TOLL BOOTH!  This brief stop will allow CBBT Toll Collectors the opportunity to communicate the traffic pattern changes ahead.

CHANGE IN TRAFFIC PATTERN –  February thru March 2020:   Motorists are to be advised of a change in traffic pattern on the northern portion of the CBBT from Portal Island #4 to the North Toll Plaza on Virginia’s Eastern Shore, as milling and repaving is performed on a portion of the northbound span.  While the facility remains open to all traffic, be advised that a portion of this 4-lane facility will reduce to two lanes, creating a bi-directional flow of traffic for approximately 10 miles.  ABSOLUTELY NO PASSING WILL BE ALLOWED.  >>Learn More
