This island provides the traveling public an opportunity to stop, stretch their legs, grab a bite to eat, cast a line, birdwatch, or just take in the natural beauty and sounds of the Chesapeake Bay. An interpretive display of the construction of the Bridge-Tunnel is located just outside the Restaurant/Gift Shop.

Scenic View

Observe Navy and commercial ocean-going ships glide gracefully through one of the world's busiest shipping channels through coin-operated viewing machines. Check out our Shipwatcher's Guide which describes the major types of Naval Ships currently based in Hampton Roads.

Scenic Overlook/Rest Area

If you are a camera buff and are looking for that perfect vantage point to photograph the Bridge-Tunnel be sure to stop at our new Scenic Overlook where viewing machines are located. The overlook is located on the west side of the roadway at the southern tip of Virginia's Eastern Shore and provides a parking area to accommodate cars, recreational vehicles and buses. In addition to the scenic overlook, the rest area located on the north end of the Bridge-Tunnel provides our customers with restroom facilities, telephones, and vending machines.
