VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – On Wednesday, November 5, 2014, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel District (CBBT) hosted the Parallel Thimble Shoal Tunnel Project Showcase at the Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront in Virginia Beach, VA. With more than 225 professionals from around the world in attendance, various fields including construction, engineering, finance, legal and material suppliers were represented.

Lt. Governor Ralph Northam and Delegate Barry Knight welcomed guests and expressed the importance of this project for the Commonwealth and provided both legislative and executive branch support for the project. John Malbon, a representative of the Commonwealth Transportation Board and member of the Hampton Roads Transportation Accountability Commission, also recognized other projects of regional significance.

The CBBT Parallel Thimble Tunnel Project Team further provided not only a general overview of the District but the Parallel Thimble Shoal Tunnel Project, including project elements, the procurement methodology and schedule, evaluation criteria that will be used for the qualification process, and updates on NEPA, permitting, geotechnical, dredge disposal, mapping and more.
