CAPE CHARLES, VA – Kevin Abt has been named Project Manager, Parallel Thimble Shoal Tunnel Project, for the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel District. He brings over 20 years of extensive experience in design and project management.
Mr. Abt joins the District management team after serving more than 12 years with the Virginia Port Authority, where he most recently served as Chief Engineer. During his time at the Virginia Port Authority, he was responsible for assisting in the development of plans and specifications for projects, as well as coordination and construction oversight at its facilities.
“Kevin’s experience in Hampton Roads, and in particular with marine construction, will be a real asset to the CBBT team. I look forward to working with Kevin to implement a great project,” states Mike Crist, Deputy Director of Infrastructure for the CBBT.
As Project Manager, Mr. Abt will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day project development and construction of the Parallel Thimble Shoal Tunnel. Additionally, he will ovesee the planning, design, construction and inspection of related engineering and construction projects; ensure compliance with federal and state policies, rules and regulations; and coordinate work with other agencies and departments.

Mr. Abt holds Associates degrees in Architectural Drafting and Design Technology and Engineering Science from the Community College of Alleghany County, Pittsburgh, PA. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA. He is registered as a professional engineer in Pennsylvania and Virginia.
