  • Does the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel utilize any form of electronic toll collection, such as E-ZPass?

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel began accepting E-ZPass on November 1, 2007.     All  toll  lanes  are  equipped  to  accept E-ZPass; however, the two far left lanes are E-ZPass only for cars and pick-up trucks.   For more information, click here

Beginning January 1, 2014, all toll discounts available for the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel will be offered to EZPass customers only.

  • Why are all toll lanes at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel gated?

Certain situations that are unique to the CBBT have required the installation of a gated system so that vehicles can be stopped if necessary.  For complete details, click here.

  • During inclement weather conditions, how can I find out if the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel is closed or restricting traffic?

  • Does the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel offer discounts to frequent travelers?

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel currently offers a 24-hour roundtrip toll reduction for passenger vehicles (see toll schedule).

Beginning January 1, 2014, a commuter toll rate will be implemented for all CBBT travelers that make 30 or more one-way trips in a 30-day period. The use of EZPass is required. For more information on this 30/30 Discount Class, click here.

Additional toll discounts will begin to be offered on January 1, 2014 that will affect passenger vehicles towing one, two or three-axle trailers as well as two-axle, six-tire vehicles that are less than 8' in height. (Click here to see the new toll schedule, effective January 1, 2014)

  • How do I get to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel?

  • Does the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel offer assistance to customers who have a phobia of driving across the facility?

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel District offers a driver's assistance program. The Police Department arranges for an employee to drive a customer's personal vehicle across the Bridge-Tunnel when a customer has a phobia of heights, bridges, tunnels, etc.  This service is provided to pre-empt an unsafe customer incident from occurring due to any phobia which may present itself when driving across the facility.

This service is offered to customers traveling in either an automobile, van, SUV, or pickup truck at no additional cost to the customer.

Customers must make arrangements in advance for this service.  The District utilizes personnel who have other specific duties to perform; these drive-overs now occur at specific times each day - 6:30 a.m., 2:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.  Delays for this service can be expected depending on the day of the week, the calendar season and potential events occuring on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel.
