Cape Charles, Va.  – A new E-ZPass Virginia Customer Service Center will open at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel on Tuesday, September 4, 2007. The acceptance of E-ZPass at the CBBT is slated to start on November 1.  Customers interested in establishing new personal or commercial E-ZPass accounts will be able to meet “face to face” with customer service representatives  at the new center which will remain open until February 2008.     The E-ZPass Service Center will be located in the CBBT’s Administration Building next to the North Toll Plaza on the Eastern Shore.  Office hours will be 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.   Customers may also establish   E-ZPass accounts via the official E-ZPass website at www.ezpassva.com or by calling 1-877-762-7824. 

E-ZPass is an electronic toll collection system designed to quickly move traffic through toll facilities in Virginia and along much of the East Coast. Motorists with an E-ZPass transponder can travel through clearly marked E-ZPass toll lanes, and the toll is automatically deducted from a pre-paid account.  Customers may establish a prepaid E-ZPass account using electronic debit of their checking account or credit card. Upon activation of an account, a transponder is issued.  An electronic chip that contains information about your account is located within the tag.  Each time you cross the CBBT, or any other toll facility that accepts E-ZPass, an antenna at the toll plaza will read the information contained in your tag. The appropriate toll, including the round-trip discount rate if applicable, is then electronically debited from your prepaid account. A record of your transactions will always be available to review or  download  from the E-ZPass website.
