E-ZPass IS HERE!

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel is now accepting E-ZPass.  This system became LIVE on November 1, 2007.

While all lanes are equipped to accept E-ZPass, the far left lanes, both northbound and southbound, are dedicated as E-ZPass lanes only for cars and pickup trucks.  ALL LANES ARE GATED AND CUSTOMERS MUST SLOW DOWN TO A MINIMAL SPEED BEFORE PASSING THROUGH THE TOLL LANES.  For more information on the importance of these gated lanes at the CBBT, please click here

WHAT IS E-ZPASS?
E-ZPass is an electronic toll collection system.

HOW DOES E-ZPASS WORK?

Customers may open a prepaid account using electronic debit of their checking account or credit card.  A transponder is then attached to the windshield of the vehicle.  Tolls are then automatically deducted from the prepaid account when the customer passes through a toll facility that accepts E-ZPass.

HOW CAN I OPEN AN E-ZPASS ACCOUNT?

You can open a personal or commercial E-ZPass account in one of three ways:
1.  Apply on-line at www.ezpassva.com
2. Call the main E-ZPass Customer Service Center at 1-877-762-7824.
3.  Visit the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel's Administration Building where CBBT personnel are available to assist you with any questions you may have regarding E-ZPass as well as provide assistance in opening an account; however, transponders are not available for immediate purchase.  All transponders for accounts that are opened at the CBBT are mailed to the customers via USPS for delivery within 7-10 business days.  (CBBT Office Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.)

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST TO OPEN AN E-ZPASS ACCOUNT?

No additional fees are involved if you open the account with automatic replenishment via direct debit of a checking account with a secondary credit card.  Otherwise, a security deposit of $25 is required.  A customer service representative will assist you in creating an account that will work for you based on your average monthly usage of tolls.

WHERE IS E-ZPASS ACCEPTED?

You can use E-ZPass on all toll roads with specially marked "E-ZPass" lanes.  This currently includes roadways in Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Maine, Massachusetts, Indiana, and Illinois.

For additional information regarding E-ZPass in Virginia, please visit the main website at www.ezpassva.com or call 1-877-762-7824.
