chesapeake bay bridge-tunnel to conduct emergency lighting repairs

Cape Charles, Va.  –   The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel District (CBBTD) will be conducting an emergency repair project in Chesapeake Tunnel starting on Sunday, May 13, 2007.

More than 150 overhead lights in both Chesapeake Tunnel and Thimble Tunnel on the CBBT were heavily damaged during a traffic accident involving an over-height truck on April 30, 2007.  The repair and replacement of the lights will be conducted only at night but travelers can expect up to 15 minute delays between 9pm and 6am starting on Sunday nights and ending early on Friday mornings.  The repairs in Chesapeake Tunnel will take about 3 weeks to complete and should be finished by Friday, June 1, 2007.

Repairs in Thimble Tunnel will coincide with a previously scheduled Tunnel Retrofit Project that will begin on June 4, 2007.  Again, work on the Tunnel Retrofit Project will be conducted only at night but travelers can expect up to 15 minute delays between 9pm and 6am starting on Sunday nights and ending early on Friday mornings.  This project will last for about one year.
