CAPE CHARLES, VA – The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel Commission has selected the IBI Group to assist in the Electronic Toll Collection implementation process.

IBI Group was chosen through a competitive bidding process to provide the technical specifications to implement electronic toll collection at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel.  Jeff Holland, Executive Director of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel District, said “IBI Group’s experience working with six of the seven electronic toll roads in Virginia and on the Commonwealth’s Smart Tag Customer Service Center will be advantageous to the District during the design of the electronic toll collection project.”

The proposed toll system will accommodate motorists by accepting both Smart Tag and E-Z Pass.  The current toll schedule with the round trip discount will still apply.  Additionally, the system design will be flexible enough to incorporate any new emerging technologies.

The District is scheduled to have a formal Request for Proposal (RFP) issued for the installation of the electronic toll collection system by the late fall of 2006. The scheduled completion date for the entire system is expected to be the fall of 2007. Customers who are interested in using electronic toll collection will be able to join the program just prior to the completion of the project.
